This “net-zero” energy, strawbale house produces all the energy it needs with a 1 Kwh photovoltaic array and a solar hot water heater mounted on the roof. A large patio, long views through the house and personalized details make this small house seem large. The garden filled with drought resistant natives and edibles is irrigated with water collected from the roof. Natural earth plaster finishes help moderate interior humidity changes and accentuate the character of the strawbale walls. All the wood for the project was FSC certified or recycled, and the redwood cabinets and window seats were constructed from roof rafters from a house previously on the site.
